Chama Cha Kazi (CCK), the party founded by former Presidential advisor Moses Kuria, has resurfaced on the political stage ahead of the November 27, 2025, by-elections by revealing the candidates ahead of time.

The nominations mark the official revival of CCK, which had been dissolved into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in 2022, now staging a political comeback.

According to certificates issued on September 12, 2025, by the Secretary General James Nage and Executive Director Philip Muchiri, three candidates would raise the party’s flag during the by-elections for elective posts.

Duncan Ireri Mbui was nominated as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County.

He will contest against Leo Muriuki Muthende from the opposing party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Newton Kariuki from the Democratic Party (DP).

Mbui left his former party, the Democratic Party, to be an independent candidate in the by-elections after accusing the party, which was associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, of acting like “a members’ club” that was serving external interests rather than those of Mbeere North residents.

Jubilee Party, led by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, and Gachagua’s DCP parties resolved not to field candidates in the Mbeere North by-election to support the joint candidate fielded by the opposition party.

“This is to certify: Duncan Ireri Mbui has been nominated by Chama Cha Kazi to contest for the position of Member of National Assembly Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County, in the by-elections to be held on 27th November 2025, “ the certificate read.

CCK extended its political influence beyond Embu and into Nyamira County, confirming the nomination of Richard Monyancha Omboto and Jackson Mogusu Mochumbe for Nyamaiya Ward MCA and Nyansiongo Ward MCA positions, respectively.

The political landscape ahead of the November 27, 2025, mini polls is shaping up to be a litmus test for Kenya’s major political players as they gear up for the 2027 General Election.

The United Opposition has resolved to back joint candidates, with several parties opting out of select races in recognition of regional strongholds.

A similar strategy has been employed by the broad-based administration, with ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohamed noting that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) should pave the way for ODM's candidates in stronghold areas.

"I know the political environment that exists now is broad-based, but that doesn't affect political parties. Every party is entitled to fight for its seat, but broadly at the constituency level, we've agreed that ODM will field candidates where it's the strongest. Where the previous holder is ODM, the party will field the candidate, for example, Kasipul, Ugunja, Magarini, those are ODM areas," Junet stated on September 12, 2025.
