During a contract-signing meeting with top Trident officials, Ms. Jane Waroga, the County Executive Committee member (CECm) for Gender, Sports, and Youth Empowerment, provided key insights into the project.
The agreement includes a comprehensive management plan, covering the stadium’s roadside area from Salvation Army to the Total petrol station.
This will see Trident take over key aspects of the stadium's visibility and overall aesthetics including branding, beautification, and the installation of giant LED screens, especially on the hoarding wall.
Notably, the contract will involve levies on attendees, which will help fund various upcoming events at the stadium.
The strategic location of the stadium also offers prime advertising spaces, with the department securing two slots for promotion.
“The ‘build, manage, and transfer’ model will allow the managing entity to oversee the stadium’s marketing, maintenance, lighting, and overall operations,” said Ms. Waroga.
Waroga further added that the department was also working closely with Sports Kenya to complete the changing rooms and was focused on securing funding for the installation of tantal tracks, tapping into resources from the Sports Fund allocated to counties.
The new-look stadium, it was noted, would also include safe standing areas, hospitality, accessible seating and enhanced tunnels.
Acting County Secretary Elias Kathiga, Chief Officer for Sports Yusuf Kaburia, and Director Charles Njagi were also present during the meeting, affirming Governor Cecily Mbarire's full support for the project.
The upgrade will be rolled out in phases, with an expected six-month timeline for material mobilization by Trident, who are sourcing materials internationally.
This marks a significant step in Embu's commitment to fostering sports development and providing modern facilities for its residents as well boosting local pride, social interactions, youth development and urban regeneration.
"This will mark a huge milestone in Embu’s commitment to sports growth and provision of modern facilities for residents," a Trident spokesperson said.
The stadium, a key sporting infrastructure in Embu county, famously hosted the Madaraka Day Celebrations on Thursday June 1, 2023 as President William Ruto led the nation in marking Kenya's 60th independence day festivities.
