A 20-year-old man, Guracha Hassan
Garbole, is fighting for his life at a Nanyuki hospital after allegedly being
shot by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers operating under the ongoing Ondoa Jangili
security operation.
According to his family, Guracha,
who completed his secondary school education last year, was shot on the evening
of August 31, 2025, at Golole trading centre in Karbururi location, Sololo
sub-county.
Witnesses claim KDF soldiers
stormed the centre and ordered the youths to surrender. In confusion, Guracha
attempted to run but was gunned down.
Relatives further allege that the
young man was blindfolded and bundled into a vehicle after the shooting, which
drove him to Marsabit.
There, the soldiers reportedly
handed him over to individuals who identified themselves as Kenya Red Cross
officials.
The group allegedly abandoned him
at Moyale sub-county hospital, leaving Ksh.5,000 on his hospital bed before
vanishing. The family says the facility lacked essential drugs, forcing them to
transfer Guracha to Nanyuki, where he remains under treatment.
The ordeal has deeply shaken the
family.
Guracha’s father is said to be
traumatised and devastated by the incident, with relatives describing him as
“completely down” as he struggles to come to terms with what happened to his
son.
The family is now calling for
justice and immediate action against the officers involved, accusing security
personnel of unlawful conduct and brutality against innocent civilians.
Neither the Kenya Defence Forces
nor the Kenya Red Cross has commented on the claims.
Another family of Galgallo is
still looking for their loved one, who they allege was abducted during the
incident. His brother, Mustafa Duba, says his brother was taken away after
Guracha was shot, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
