Mukunji was arrested during the Saba Saba protests alongside a journalist and a boda boda rider. The MP faced terror charges, which were later dropped after Anti-Terrorism Court in Kahawa established that the prosecution failed to make its case.
Speaking at a bursary ceremony at the University of Embu, the first-term legislator claimed his arrest was part of a wider scheme to end his political career. He alleged he was given two options: to be shot and framed as resisting arrest, or to die in a staged fire at the police station.
Mukunji credited his survival to divine providence and “well-wishers” within the system.
He further alleged his aides were arrested and pressured to sign false statements implicating him in crimes but remained loyal.
He painted a picture of division within the police, saying some officers colluded in the plot while others secretly alerted his family and offered protection.
Defiant, Mukunji vowed not to bow to intimidation and urged security agencies to resist political manipulation.
