The police in Kuria West, Migori County, are hunting a
middle-aged man linked to the rape and murder of his 50-year-old mother-in-law on
Wednesday.
Kuria West sub-county police commander Reuben Kemboi said
preliminary investigations established that the suspect, whose wife allegedly
escaped from home because of marital issues, stormed the mother-in-law’s home
at around midnight and killed her before escaping.
He said they are yet to know what transpired before the
murder.
“The suspect’s wife ran away from her matrimonial home and
was not at their home when the incident happened,” Kemboi said.
The police boss said the woman’s house was also allegedly
torched by the suspect, and two children were also injured during the night
attack.
Celine Mwita, a clinical officer at Bugumbe health centre, confirmed
that they treated the children before referring them to Migori Level Four Hospital
for further treatment.
Kuria West residents have called on the police to
expeditiously investigate the incident, further raising concern over increasing
cases of insecurity and gender-based violence in the region.
