A man in Nakuru was found guilty of murder in a case where he attacked another man he found under his bed in a suspected love triangle.

Justice Samuel Mohochi sealed the almost two-year-long legal battle after ruling that evidence from the prosecution proved that Cyrus Kipng’eno Rono was guilty of killing his neighbor, Moody Awori.

“The manner in which the body of the deceased was found is indicative of the depth of violence he suffered at the hands of the accused,” Justice Mohochi noted.

“I find the accused, Cyrus Kipng’eno Rono, guilty of the offence of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, and he is hereby convicted accordingly."

On the fateful day of the incident, August 29, 2023, Rono was working as a night guard in Kiamunyeki when he unsuccessfully tried to call his wife and excused himself from work.

He is then said to have arrived at his home around 9pm and attempted to knock at his bedroom door, which remained unanswered for a few minutes.

His wife later came out looking edgy, raising Rono's curiosity. Further scouring the room, he found Awori, half-dressed, under the bed and attacked him with a machete.

Evidence presented before the court intimated that the victim was stabbed repeatedly on the neck and limbs.

Rono later went to Lanet Police Station to report the incident and later led the officers to the scene of crime, leading to his arrest.

Government pathologist Titus Ngulungu told the court that Awori died from severe head injuries caused by blunt and sharp force trauma.

Rono now awaits sentencing.
