Police identified the suspect as Daniel Kipkorir, 38, who is accused of killing Geoffrey Kimutai, 34, during a domestic dispute with his wife.
According to a police report filed by Chemundu Assistant Chief Solomon Tarus, the incident started when Kipkorir argued with his 32-year-old wife.
Following the dispute, the woman fled their marital home and sought refuge at her father's house in Baraton, accompanied by the couple's three children.
Kipkorir reportedly went to the homestead around 6:00 p.m., armed with a knife and intending to take his children.
His two brothers-in-law attempted to stop him, resulting in a heated exchange that turned violent.
Kipkorir allegedly stabbed Kimutai in the chest and left shoulder during the confrontation.
Bystanders who responded to the commotion descended on Kipkorir, assaulting him before he was rescued by good Samaritans.
Kimutai was rushed to Kapsabet Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival due to excessive bleeding.
His body was later transferred to White Crescent Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
He is currently being held at Kapsabet Police Station as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Chesumei Sub-County launch further investigations into the matter.
