The equipment, procured through the Department of Environment, Urban Planning, and Natural Resources, was launched at Mvindeni in Ukunda Ward, Msambweni Sub-County.
The initiative seeks to address persistent waste disposal challenges while promoting a cleaner and more attractive environment for residents, investors, and the tourism sector.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Achani emphasized that proper waste management is essential for public health, economic growth, and the county’s tourism appeal.
“A clean environment is a fundamental tool in preventing diseases, boosting tourism, and fostering economic growth. I urge municipality managers to work closely with the women and youth cleaning companies to ensure our towns remain clean,” she said.
The Governor further disclosed plans to gazette Samburu Municipality in Samburu Sub-County, a move she said would enhance urban development in the region.
The new waste management equipment adds to a string of county-led development projects, including the installation of street and floodlights, the construction of cabro roads and ablution blocks, the operationalization of Kwale Stadium at Kinarini, and the launch of the Diani modern market at Mvindeni.
The county has also awarded cleanliness contracts to women- and youth-led companies, part of its efforts to promote job creation and dignify towns.
Deputy Governor Josphat Chirema Kombo lauded the empowerment of women and youth through cleaning tenders, saying the initiative was not only improving sanitation but also providing livelihoods.
“I commend the good job being done by our women and youths who have been given the cleaning tenders. It is my hope that those who have been criticizing the government about waste will now have nothing to complain about,” Kombo remarked.
Kinango Municipality Board Chairman Moses Dzivo also welcomed the development, noting that waste management had been a recurring concern raised by residents during public participation forums.
“Solid waste management has been one of the main issues raised by the residents, and I thank the Governor for acting on it. These skip loaders will help resolve the matter,” he said
County officials, including County Secretary Silvia Chidodo, Environment CECM Saumu Beja, Agriculture CECM Roma Shera, Public Administration CECM Karua Tsiwezi, Chief Officer for Environment Neema Suya, and Chief Officer for Trade Hassan Ngalaa, were present at the event.
