Kwale County has promoted 67 out
of 68 eligible doctors, fulfilling a key commitment in the Return-to-Work
Formula (RTWF) agreement signed on July 8, 2025.
The promotions span various cadres
from Job Group N to S and follow a two-week strike by healthcare workers under
the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU).
According
to a statement issued by KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah, the county
effected the promotions within the agreed three-week timeline, and promotion
letters are now ready for collection.
The union hailed this as a
demonstration of what can be achieved through genuine dialogue and decisive
action.
The
promoted cadres include Senior Medical Officers, Dentists, and Pharmacists under
Job Group N (12); Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Specialists II under Job
Group P (11); Specialists I under Job Group Q (30); Senior Specialists under
Job Group R (13); and one Chief Specialist under Job Group S.
KMPDU
commended the Kwale County Government, led by Governor Fatuma Achani, for
honouring its word and demonstrating integrity in upholding the dignity of
doctors.
“This not only boosts morale
across the profession but also strengthens healthcare delivery for the people
of Kwale,” stated Dr. Atellah.
The doctors’ union boss also attributed
the achievement to the solidarity of its members and the leadership of KMPDU,
describing the outcome as a win for both healthcare workers and the healthcare
system at large.
“Let this be a message to all counties:
when you respect healthcare workers, you protect healthcare systems,” The KMPDU
SG concluded.
