Homicide
detectives on Friday returned to Kwa Binzaro in preparation for the planned
exhumation of eight graves that had been discovered late last month.
But as they mapped
out the existing graves, they made even more grave discoveries. In scattered
sections of the five-acre land secured for investigations within Kwa Binzaro
were even more graves
A total of 13 fresh
graves were discovered in the excursion into the crime scene.
Kwa Binzaro is
near Shakahola, the scene of a religion inspired massacre that left more four
hundred people dead, a majority of them children.
The discovery of
the fresh graves also brings to 11 the number of deaths in the new Kwa Binzaro
tragedy. Human bones could be seen in some of the graves, believed to have been
dug up by wild animals in the area.
It is believed
that the deceased could have been starved to death, in a manner similar to the Shakahola
massacre.
Unlike what
transpired in Shakahola, the graves in Kwa Binzaro are concealed a bit better
deep in the bushes.
Detectives led by
the Director of Homicide Martin Nyuguto indicated that the discovery of the new
graves was made possible by confessions from some of the suspects arrested from
the area, that has now been designated a scene of crime.
Authorities are
also searching for more suspects still in hiding.
Families of those
who are missing and are suspected to have moved to the area are now being
encouraged to come forward to provide DNA samples for identification once
bodies are exhumed.
It is believed
that these victims could have been members of Good News International, the cult
associated with Paul Mckenzie, the alleged mastermind of the Shakahola massacre.
