The Kisumu National Polytechnic has been
closed indefinitely following a week-long student unrest.
In a notice issued
Friday morning, Chief Principal Catherine Kelonye directed all students to
vacate the institution’s premises until further notice.
She said the
decision was reached after the school’s Council convened to address five
consecutive days of disruptions.
According to
Kelonye, students have been on a rampage since Monday, boycotting classes and
staging demonstrations.
She added that
the student association has raised several allegations against the management,
including claims of corruption and increased fees.
Kelonye assured that the concerns would be thoroughly investigated and addressed to restore normalcy at the institution.
