An Administrative Officer at the Kisii County Assembly has
been charged with multiple counts of forgery and fraudulently securing
employment using falsified documents.
David Geoffrey Ombiro was arrested by officers from the Ethics
and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday, following investigations into
his employment records.
According to the EACC, Ombiro allegedly altered his birth
certificate by changing his year of birth from 1967 to 1973, which he then used
to obtain a National Identity Card with the amended details.
EACC further said the suspect went on to forge a Kenya Revenue
Authority (KRA) PIN, a National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) card, and a
National Social Security Fund (NSSF) card to align with the falsified identity.
These documents were allegedly submitted to the Kisii County
Assembly as part of his official records.
Upon completion of the probe, the file was forwarded to the
Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which recommended charges
including: one count of deceiving a principal under the Anti-Corruption and
Economic Crimes Act, five counts of forgery, and five counts of uttering false
documents.
Ombiro was processed at the EACC South Nyanza Regional Office
before being held overnight at Kisii Central Police Station.
He was arraigned before the Kisii Anti-Corruption Court on
Wednesday, where he denied all charges.
The court released him on a bond of Ksh.150,000 with one
surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh.70,000.
