A fire broke out at St. Michael Girls Boarding Comprehensive School in
Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County, on Sunday, razing a dormitory.
Residents living near the primary school said a loud explosion
was heard from across the compound at around 9 a.m. before flames
erupted from the building.
Kerugoya location chief, Justus Mwai, arrived at the
school moments afterwards and informed firefighters from the county
government
According to the chief, the fire gutted a
dormitory that housed 60 pupils, but none of the learners were inside the
building when the blaze broke out.
Although it is suspected that the fire may have been caused
by an electrical fault, the chief said detectives have launched
investigations into the incident.
Mwai further assured parents that all the children are safe
and called for calm as authorities work with the school administration to
address the situation.
