Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has warned that if the government does not release pending capitation funds, learning in public schools may be disrupted when classes resume in two weeks.
Speaking at the 5th graduation ceremony of Gorgeous Technical Institute in Thika, Kiambu County, Nyoro stated that schools ranging from primary to senior secondary are facing operational challenges as a result of delayed government disbursements.
He urged the National Treasury to clear all arrears, warning that further delays could paralyze education nationwide.
The legislator also advocated for equitable funding for students pursuing technical and vocational training, whether they attend public or private institutions.
"Learners in private TVET institutions should receive state assistance, just like their peers in public colleges," Nyoro stated.
His remarks were echoed by Gorgeous Technical Institute director Jackline Kibutha, who urged parents to encourage their children to pursue technical courses, noting that such skills open pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.
Several graduates expressed confidence that the skills they had learned would allow them to start income-generating businesses and improve their lives.
Nyoro also criticized recent fuel price increases, describing them as a burden on the economy and a contributor to the high cost of living.
He argued that frequent and unpredictable price changes erode competitiveness.During the event, dozens of graduates received certificates and diplomas in fields such as cosmetology, hair and beauty, hospitality, and engineering, which the institution stated are vital in addressing unemployment among Kenyan youth.
