Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a senior clerical officer at the Kericho County Lands Registry, accused of demanding and receiving bribes to process land documents.
EACC, through its South Rift Regional Office, stated that Dallington Kipkurui Mutai was caught red-handed after allegedly soliciting Ksh.210,000 to
facilitate the preparation of title deeds for two parcels of land.
His arrest followed an operation mounted by the
Commission to address complaints from Kericho residents that the clerk had made
it routine to demand a “facilitation fee” before initiating the production of
title deeds.
Mutai was escorted to Kericho Police Station, where he was
processed and later released on a cash bail of Ksh.50,000 pending the
conclusion of investigations.
The Commission noted that the sting operation is part of an ongoing
crackdown on bribery in public service delivery, saying it will continue to
scale up surveillance in institutions prone to corruption.
