The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that the ongoing heavy rainfall experienced across the nation will continue.

The weatherman announced on Sunday that torrential rains will continue in Nairobi, Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coastal regions.

The rains, the department added, may be accompanied by heavy winds which could cause damage to structures and trees.

Kenyans have been urged to remain vigilant as flooding may occur even downstream where rain hasn’t fallen.

They have also been urged to avoid crossing moving water, stay indoors during thunderstorms.

"Refer to forecast maps for rainfall distribution and intensity," Kenya Met said.

Heavy rains have been experienced since Friday evening across the nation.
