Speaking at the Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa on Sunday during an empowerment drive attended by President William Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet, Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, and Taveta MP John Bwire among others, Prof. Kindiki condemned what he called "indecent politics" aimed at alienating specific communities.
“We condemn those who seek to demean a particular clan or community. We believe Kenya is one. Some people are angry because Muslims who were previously left behind are now being included in government affairs,” said Kindiki.
The Deputy President further dismissed as unacceptable any insinuations linking members of certain communities to terrorism or criminal activity.
Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe echoed the Deputy President’s sentiments, warning that Gachagua’s alleged remarks on terrorism could harm Kenya’s image abroad and damage its tourism sector.
“There are people who do not like unity among Kenyans. There is this man called Wamunyoro who travels to America telling tourists not to visit Kenya, claiming the country is full of al-Shabaab. The US intelligence system is too sophisticated for you. You buy flags there, take photos in a hotel corridor, then claim Kenya is unsafe,” Mugabe remarked.
During the same event, Prof. Kindiki announced that the government is fast-tracking key projects in Mombasa aimed at boosting the blue economy, improving infrastructure, and expanding social amenities.
He said the completion of the Liwatoni Fish Port, Kidongo Fish Market, and the acquisition of deep-sea fishing vessels would significantly benefit fishing communities and spur related businesses along the Coast.
He added that new fresh produce markets in Sega, Old Town, Makupa, Changamwe, and Swaleh Khalid, as well as housing projects in Buxton and Nyali and student hostels at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, would transform the county’s economy and improve livelihoods.
CS Joho criticized opposition leaders, accusing them of empty politics, and urged Mombasa residents to support President Ruto ahead of the 2027 general election.
