The Kenya African National Union (KANU) has nominated its National Chairman, Gideon Moi, as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Baringo Senatorial by-election.
In a statement
released on Thursday, KANU said Moi’s nomination followed extensive
consultations, deliberations, and consensus within the party and with the
people of Baringo.
“This decision
underscores the party’s unwavering commitment to offering experienced,
visionary, and people-centred leadership at a critical juncture for Baringo
County and the nation at large,” read the statement.
Moi, who previously
served as Baringo Senator, expressed gratitude to KANU members and residents of
Baringo for their patience, confidence, and support.
He pledged to run a
people-driven campaign “anchored on inclusivity, accountability, and service to
all,” adding that his candidature would resonate widely with the electorate.
KANU has now called
on its supporters across Baringo County and the country at large to rally
behind Moi in the upcoming by-election.
The senatorial seat
fell vacant following the death of Baringo Senator William Cheptumo on February
16, this year.
Cheptumo, who was
serving his first term in office after defeating Gideon Moi in the 2022 General
Election, passed away while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
