Kalonzo: We’re ready to pay any price to make Ruto a one-term President

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that members of the newly formed United Opposition are prepared to “make any sacrifice, bear any burden, [and] pay any price” to send President William Ruto home in 2027.

Kalonzo spoke to the press on Saturday on behalf of the coalition, which brings together fellow opposition party leaders Rigathi Gachagua (Democracy for Citizens Party - DCP), Eugene Wamalwa (Democratic Action Party Kenya - DAP-K), Martha Karua (People’s Liberation Party - PLP), as well as former Interior CS and declared 2027 presidential hopeful Dr. Fred Matiang’i.

The Wiper boss said no amount of political coercion or inducement would make them abandon their mission.

“Anyone thinking that Kalonzo Musyoka or Eugene Wamalwa or Rigathi Gachagua or Martha Karua or Fred Matiang’i or any other of our colleagues in the united opposition will be bought, intimidated, or compromised to abandon this nation, clearly must be day-dreaming,” he said.

The former Vice President maintained that the alliance’s goal is to ensure that Ruto becomes a one-term president, describing his administration as a “failed regime” with “failed policies.”

“We believe William Ruto and his failed regime, with his failed policies, should be a one-term President. Two years later, our focus has only grown sharper, and our resolve stronger towards fulfilling this sacred mission of uniting and liberating our country from the shackles of Zakayo’s harsh taxes, corruption and bad governance – and restoring good governance, accountability, integrity in our public service, and respect for the rule of law and Constitutionalism,” he stated.

Kalonzo emphasised that the coalition’s unity was unshakable, pledging never to abandon Kenyans in their push for change.

“Fellow Kenyans, we will never abandon you, and we believe you will never abandon us as well, and we’ll never abandon our country. We’re in this together to the end, to be able to rid this country of this corrupt broad-based government,” he said.

The United Opposition is positioning itself as the main political force against President Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election, vowing to intensify its campaign in the less than two years remaining before the polls.
