Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says he will
contest the presidency in 2027 to unseat President William Ruto.
Speaking on the day his former boss marked three years in
office, Gachagua accused President Ruto of using State House delegation meetings
to breed corruption, saying his presidency will end corruption should he be
elected into office.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) boss spoke as he
led his party officials and leaders for a tour of the Mt. Kenya region, where he
used roadside stops to announce that he will be vying for the presidency.
"We shall liberate Kenya, no matter what! It is a matter
of time. The year 2027 is the time; I am firmly in the Presidential race for a
better Kenya where every Kenyan will participate in governance of their country,"
he wrote in a statement on X later in the evening.
Gachagua and his allies told Mt Kenya residents that he is the
best suited within the opposition outfit to fly the presidential flag.
“Sisi tumeamua kuwa kwa opposition yule anaweza kutoa Ruto ni
Gachagua pekee yake,” DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala said.
Gachagua took issue with delegations hosted in State House,
saying it amounted to breeding corruption.
“Jana aliita watu wa Murang’a akawahonga Ksh.5000 ati ndiyo
wampigie Kasongo kura... inawezekana kweli?” Gachagua posed.
He claimed the President is using taxpayers’ money to buy
political support and assured him that the region was all gone and now under
the united opposition.
“Jana ulidanganya watu wa Murang’a... ukasema ati Wakikuyu
wanapenda pesa... sasa wacha tukuambie hapa Murang’a hakuna hata kura moja
utapata,” said Gachagua.
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu added: “Jana wale wote walikuwa
State House ni wafuasi wa Gachagua na walikuwa wanasema one term.”
Gachagua claims President Ruto is using unnamed persons in the
Mt Kenya region to register satellite parties to divide the mountain ahead of
the 2027 General Election.
“Hata hapa Murang’a amewaambia vijana wengine watengeneze
chama ati ndiyo watumike...tumejua hiyo...eti ndio waseme hawataki Kasongo
kumbe ni wheelbarrow ya Kasongo,” noted Gachagua.
In Kirinyaga, Senator Kamau Murango criticised the hosting of
delegations at State House, terming the meetings a cash cow to fleece
taxpayers’ money.
“Kuna mkahawa mpya siku hizi inaitwa State House, watu wanaenda halafu wanapewa pesa nyingi... hiyo pesa inatoka wapi?” Murango posed.
Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina on her part added, “Ni zile pesa zenu
wanaiba... mkiitwa muende mpewe pesa zenu lakini ikifika kura mjue
tunawaonyesha cha mtema kuni.”
