Health PS Muriuki warns local hospitals against charging outpatient services

Muthoni says that President William Ruto has issued the directive, calling on hospital management to follow it and not to turn away patients.
Muthoni says that the ministry will be vigilant to ensure that Kenyans enjoy services in the hospitals without paying.
She warned that health professionals who will defy the directive risk cancellation of their licences.
Speaking in Kirinyaga central on Sunday, Muthoni said that all Kenyans who are registered with Social Health Insurance should not pay even a coin in those facilities.
She says that they will only be required to pay when they are referred to Level 4 and level five hospitals.
She called on Kenyans to continue registering with SHA so as to receive better health care adding that government has initiated a number of reforms aimed at streamline health sector in the country.
President William Ruto on Sunday ordered all levels 1 to 3 hospitals, including sub-county hospitals, to treat patients seeking outpatient services free of charge because the national government will pay for them through UHC.
Ruto cautioned Kiambu County governor Kimani Wamatangi over hospitals charging outpatients despite the national government paying them through UHC.
