Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured residents of the coastal region of the government's commitment to fulfill all the promises made during campaigns in a bid to uplift their lives. 

The DP said the Kenya Kwanza Administration is keen to put the region at par with the rest of the country in development, adding that the no section of the country will be discriminated against. 

"Implementation of the 2022 electoral campaigns made to the people of the Coastal region is underway. The Kenya Kwanza government will continue to deliver development equitably across the country," he noted. 

The Deputy President spoke on Friday during Ganze Constituency Economic Empowerment Engagement in Ganze town, Kilifi County. 

On top of returning port operations to Mombasa immediately after assuming office, DP Kindiki said a wide range of development projects have been funded by the government in Kilifi and the entire Coastal area in line with its promise to better the lives of residents who have been sidelined for years. 

“We promised in 2022 to return port operations to Mombasa. Today, our young people are once again earning from the port, and we will continue creating more opportunities,” he said.

Prof. Kindiki also ascertained faster completion of ongoing projects, including the 56-kilometre Mariakani–Bamba Road, valued at KSh 2.2 billion, noting that the project had stalled for years.

“The contractor is back on site. The President has directed that this road must move quickly and be completed without delay,” he said, cautioning against laxity.

The dualing of the Nyali- Mtwapa- Kilifi highway is progressing.

Further, the DP highlighted ongoing development programmes in Ganze and Kilifi, including the construction of modern markets and a new training institute. 

Additionally, expansion of the last mile electricity project in the County, which will connect over 21,000 households, of which Ksh270 million will be spent for projects in Ganze Constituency to connect an additional 3000 households.

The government is constructing affordable housing projects, markets, hostels in all the constituencies in the county at a total cost of Ksh16.3 billion.

They include Tezo, Malindi and Mtwapa Affordable Housing Projects, Mtwapa, Mikuluni, Mazeras, Shela, Msabaha, Watamu and Mnarani markets and Pwani University and Godoma Technical Training Institute student hostels.

At the same time, the DP expressed commitment to resolve persistent  human-wildlife conflicts in the area. 

Prof. Kindiki said the government will fence off Tsavo East National Park to prevent elephants from straying into villages

“I am saddened to hear that our people are still being troubled by elephants. We must secure the park so wananchi can live in peace,” he said.

On land matters, the Deputy President said funds have been allocated to address squatter issues and support resettlement.

“Every Kenyan deserves dignity and land they can call their own. We will reduce squatting in Kilifi,” he emphasized.

The Deputy President also urged the people of Ganze and Kilifi to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 elections. He stressed the importance of obtaining identity cards and voter’s cards in order to participate in choosing leaders.

“Your ID is your weapon. Your vote is your power to choose the leaders you want,” he told the gathering.

He also challenged the residents to register for SHA medical cover saying only 520, 000 of the targetted 1, 453, 000 have been enrolled.
