In a statement, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, said the initiative is aimed at reconnecting Kenyans to experience “the unparalleled beauty of the nation’s natural treasures” and to promote awareness of conservation.
“By opening the gates to these iconic spaces, we aim to foster a greater appreciation of Kenya's rich biodiversity and inspire a shared responsibility to protect it for generations to come,” Miano said.
The 2025 tourism’s theme is “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” which highlights the role of tourism in positive change for communities, conservation, and economic growth.
Miano further encouraged Kenyans to take advantage of the opportunity to visit the parks, learn and be amazed by the wonders of the nation heritage. She also urged Kenyans to celebrate 2025 UN world tourism day
“We invite all Kenyans to take advantage of this opportunity to explore, learn, and celebrate the wonders of our parks, reserves, and sanctuaries, which are not just Kenya's pride but the world's heritage,” she added. “It reaffirms our commitment to sustainable tourism and conservation.”
Meanwhile, the announcement comes amid the government’s plan to hike the park entry fee to address a Ksh.12 billion funding deficits- from Ksh.430 to Ksh.1000 for Kenyans and Ksh.10,360 for foreigners.
