Five suspects have been arrested over alleged involvement in healthcare fraud linked to files submitted by the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).

In a statement issued on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said it had received 1,188 files from the two agencies on September 1, 2025.

The files relate to individuals, organisations, and other parties suspected of being engaged in healthcare fraud.

The DCI noted that a multi-agency team was immediately constituted to review the files, with the aim of ensuring that all those involved in fraudulent activities within the health sector are held accountable.

“We wish to inform the general public that the 1,188 files are at various stages of investigation. Currently, five suspects are in custody pending arraignment on Monday, October 6, 2025,” the DCI statement read in part.

According to the DCI, the suspects will face charges under multiple laws, including the Penal Code, the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act, the Social Health Insurance Act, and the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.

The investigative agency further disclosed that efforts to track down and apprehend additional suspects are ongoing, with approvals already granted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

“The DCI remains resolute in its commitment to stopping healthcare fraud, holding all offenders accountable, and, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, ensuring that all assets and resources acquired fraudulently are recovered,” the statement added.
