A family in Nairobi’s Pipeline estate is reeling after the brutal murder of their kin who was killed in cold blood by her husband.
The family of Susan Nabwire says they may never recover from the pain of losing a loved one at the hands of someone meant to protect her.
The distraught relatives are now left to care for a one-year-old
orphan, a child who lost her mother to tragedy and whose father is now behind
bars.
The 27-year-old Susan was killed on the night of August 13, 2025, inside her rented house in Kware, Nairobi’s Pipeline estate.
The gruesome attack unfolded in full view of her house help and her one-year-old child.
The family recounts that on the fateful night, 44-year-old Cyprian Mukoye returned home in a foul mood. He quarrelled with his wife, demanding her phone, passwords, and M-Pesa PIN.
It is alleged that he suspected his
25-year-old wife of having an affair. That night, he refused to eat, and the
confrontation dragged on into the night as their house help watched in fear.
“They started arguing and he slapped Susan, asking for her
cellphone. He then threatened her that if she wouldn’t give him the PIN,
he would kill her,”
"The wife refused to give him the PIN number, and he went to the bedroom. Akatoa nguo akajipiga picha then akaanza kuambia mke wake atoe nguo aje wajipige picha pia."
The house help recalls that around 3 a.m., Cyprian woke up, went to the bathroom, and returned with an axe. He struck his wife on the neck, leaving her with a deep cut that sent her collapsing helplessly to the floor.
Despite her pleas for mercy, the assault continued until she took her last breath.
In her statement, the house help adds that after the attack, Cyprian tied a rope around Nabwire’s neck and shoved her body under the bed. Covered in blood, he then turned on the house help, sexually assaulting her.
When it was over, he locked her, the child, and Nabwire’s lifeless body inside
the house before disappearing with their mobile phones.
Police were called and were forced to break down the door, only
to encounter a very disturbing crime scene. They carried her body to Mama
Lucy mortuary, where it is currently preserved.
Susan Nabwire operated as an M-Pesa agent within Machakos Country Bus in Nairobi. On the other hand, her husband is said to have been a former police officer who was currently operating as a casual labourer within Pipeline after he lost his job.
On Saturday, police confirmed to have
apprehended the suspect and he is currently detained at Embakasi Police Station, awaiting court process, even as this family says this is one tragic encounter
that will haunt them forever.
