Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has vowed to continue pushing for equal development across Kenya, calling for an end to ethnic and divisive politics bedevilling the nation’s socio-economic growth.

The Deputy President spoke on Wednesday during a development engagement with thousands of grassroots leaders and residents from Kitui County at his home in Irunduni, Tharaka Nithi County.

He affirmed that the government is open to working with all leaders, including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, without considering their regional, party, or religious affiliations, pledging the administration’s intention to serve all Kenyans.

“The politics of dividing Kenyans, preaching hatred and division, has no place in Kenya. The government has been elected to serve all Kenyans in spite of how they voted. Our Constitution protects all Kenyans against discrimination of any form,” DP noted.

Further, Prof. Kindiki said every part of the country will be equally developed, dismissing attempts by those in the opposition to balkanise the country according to past voting patterns.

In line with this objective, the DP highlighted several multi-billion-shilling development projects going on in Kitui plus those in the pipeline.

They include the construction of Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui town at Ksh.800 million and the upgrading of Ithookwe Airstrip at Ksh.150 million in readiness for Mashujaa Day Celebrations later this month.

Further, Kitui town has received a major facelift through the re-carpeting of roads to elevate its status ahead of the celebrations on October 20.

“We are on course to build a better Kenya, a country without any form of discrimination. All 47 counties must develop because they deserve development. They are part of Kenya and I will make sure that is realised,” he declared.

Kitui is one of the highest beneficiaries of the last-mile connectivity after it was allocated Ksh.2.1 billion targeting the connection of an additional 16,000 households.

Construction of affordable housing projects and hostels is ongoing in Kitui town, South Eastern Kenya University, all KMTC campuses and technical institutes in the area among them Tseikuru and Mwingi TTIs.

Also 12 modern markets are coming up in Kisasi, Zombe, Ikutha, Nuu, Mwingi, among others.

Stalled roads have been revive,d including Kwa Vonza-Ikutha, Zombe-Kyuluni Roads, among others, for which the government has already issued tenders.

Enziu Bridge in Mwingi is also being hastened, DP promising to inspect its progress in the coming days.

“We will continue working with Kitui leaders to speed up development. I will be pushing for development in Kitui, and I will not let you down,” he pledged.

With the SHA registration low in the County, now at 400, 000 against a target of 1.1 million, Prof. Kindiki urged the grassroots leaders to heighten efforts to enroll more residents for them to get access to health services under Taifa Care.
