After a two-year self-imposed hiatus that left fans wondering about his next move, Dogo Skillz has made a triumphant return—not just to the music scene, but with a newly honed perspective and an impressive portfolio to boot.
The My Type hitmaker has now released what he calls a "mini-EP": a three-song project that features a rich blend of melodies and an undeniable sonic quality, immediately capturing the listener and reinforcing the singer's remarkable versatility.
Dogo, ever the ingenious songwriter whose mellifluous flow and smooth lyricism earned him a spot in the pop stratosphere, has blended global sounds by infusing the flavor of Kenyan music with a tinge of Amapiano, Afrobeat, and delectable influences from the Middle East—and beyond.
His new music is already creating a buzz as he brings a fresh and captivating sound to the forefront. The comeback project is not just a solo effort; it features high-profile collaborations with international artists, signaling a new chapter in his musical journey and expanding his reach far beyond East Africa.
"I needed to take a step back and rediscover my sound and my purpose," Dogo Skillz shared in an interview. "The break allowed me to mature not only as an artist but also as an individual. I'm coming back with a clearer vision and a deeper passion for my craft."
In the new music, Dogo bursts back with potent production that massages every nuance, beefs up every riff, shoots every melody skyward, and gives a featherlight touch.
His special gift has always been his remarkable ability to churn out seismic earworms that intricately draw the listener in, with a groovy croon that both ensnares and reverberates.
In Zimeshika, the Kenyan star collaborates with Dubai-based DJ and producer Laty (Flawless Paris Boss), delivering an Amapiano-inspired banger packed with heavy lyrical heat that blends seamlessly with DJ Laty and Xeinsoulafrica’s rhythmic structure.
And in My Love, Dogo’s delivery is confident and passionate, showcasing his signature vocal style that combines pop sensibility with Afrobeat’s rhythmic intensity. The result is a high-energy anthem whose refreshing feel adds depth to the track’s atmosphere.
The singer, born Gabriel Mumbo Lare, is on track to release a full EP before dropping his much-anticipated album, which will then usher in a historic world tour that will see him crisscross the globe, staging electrifying performances in Dubai, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa, Germany, and several parts of Europe.
"It's been a long time coming and I feel ready to do this. My team is working hard on the EP and the album, and then we shall treat fans to a spectacular tour—the first of its kind by a solo Kenyan artist," Dogo Skillz said.
Beyond music and philanthropy, Dogo is also a licensed real estate professional in Dubai, working closely with high-net-worth individuals to curate premium investments and luxury homes that match their lifestyles and visions.
Soon after relocating to Dubai, he immersed himself in the city’s thriving arts, entertainment, and real estate scene. With its dynamic blend of cultures, Dubai became the perfect backdrop for him to grow his burgeoning career.
Additionally, his collaborations with award-winning artists, top label executives, and influential African figures—including popular model Hamisa Mobetto, Bridgit Shighadi, Tanasha Donna, and Taya Kruzz—exemplify his dedication to fostering cross-cultural exchanges.
"These collaborations have allowed me to bring the unique sounds of African music to global stages while introducing international artists to the rich cultural tapestry of Africa," he says.
Dogo also promises to drop the music videos for the new singles soon, hinting that production could start as early as this weekend.
