The Diaspora Africa Conference officially
kicked off in Nairobi, with over 200 delegates expected to attend the
inaugural Kenyan edition of the global diaspora event.
Founded by Ambassador Eze Chukwu, a
U.S.-based software engineer, the conference seeks to connect Africans in the
diaspora with opportunities back home through a growing ecosystem of investment
and development.
“This is the only place they can truly feel
at home,” Chukwu said, noting the importance of creating value-driven
collaborations between diaspora professionals and local entrepreneurs.
The event, set to run from August 7–8 will bring together investors, innovators, and
thought leaders from across Africa, the United States, and Europe.
The main sessions on August 8 will feature notable speakers
including Prof. PLO Lumumba, Optiven Group CEO George Wachiuri, and
international business leaders from the U.S., Nigeria, Ghana, and beyond.
Key focus sectors include real estate,
agri-trade, health and wellness, the creative economy, and technology. Local
partnerships have been established with companies such as Optiven, Avocap, GTC
Building, and Kenya Airways.
Olowa Dickens, a creative and events
specialist involved in the project, emphasized the importance of local
engagement
“This is not just about the diaspora. Kenyan entrepreneurs
will find value in networking and partnerships that can transform their
businesses,” said Dickens
Previous editions of the conference have
been held in the U.S., Ghana, and Zanzibar, with Kenya marking the fifth
destination. Organizers say plans are underway to expand to Rwanda, South
Africa, and Nigeria in the coming years.
