The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) has re-elected Dalmas Odero as its National Chairman for a second three-year term.
Odero, who
first assumed office in July 2022, pledged to anchor his new term on reforms
focused on professionalism, member welfare, advocacy, and execution. He said
his goal is to strengthen ethics, enhance certification, address emerging
challenges such as AI and hybrid work, and improve mental well-being support
for members.
The chairman
also vowed to champion amendments to the Human Resource Management
Professionals (HRMP) Act. If enacted, the reforms will expand IHRM’s mandate,
strengthen accountability, and entrench HR as a key partner in national policy
and workforce planning.
Odero said his
re-election was not a personal victory but a collective mandate from HR
professionals to elevate the institute’s role in transforming organizations and
contributing to nation-building. He promised to foster inclusivity and unity
within the profession while positioning IHRM as a continental leader in people
management and corporate governance.
The chairman
further called on practitioners to comply with licensing requirements,
stressing that credibility and respect for the profession depend on full
membership and adherence to regulations. He noted that while IHRM has over
20,000 registered members, only about 7,000 actively participate in its
activities.
He urged
greater engagement, including from students in universities and colleges
pursuing HR courses.
“We must
ensure every HR practitioner is a licensed, active member of IHRM. That is the
only way to safeguard our credibility and respect as professionals,” Odero
said.
Executive
Director Kuresha Abdullahi backed the call, reminding employers that HR is a
regulated profession and warning that organizations risk liability if they hire
unlicensed practitioners.
