Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has suspended 40 health facilities after investigations revealed they were defrauding the Social Health Authority (SHA) system.

In a press briefing on Friday, the CS explained that the suspension is part of ongoing efforts by the government to curb fraudsters within the healthcare sector.

Among the hospitals flagged in Nairobi include Vebeneza Medical Centre Tassia, Imara Healthcare centre, ABM Specialised Hospital, Dolma Medical Centre, Lego Medical, St. Johns Hospital Ltd, Edris Premier Hospital Ltd, Bristol Park Hospital Fedha and Selacare Health Services.

"We have suspended 40 health facilities found to be defrauding the SHA. These suspensions take effect immediately. During the investigation period, these facilities will not receive any benefits from SHA, and we will surcharge them for the money lost," Duale said.

The CS also identified professionals who engaged in the malpractices and have since removed their data from the SHA system pending the outcome of the investigations.

"Any doctor or health official involved in defrauding SHA will be held responsible. We will hand over all the hospitals and the 12 health officials to the DCI for further investigations. Additionally, we have ordered the relevant regulatory bodies to cancel their licences."

He reiterated President William Ruto's stern warning to fraudsters in the healthcare sector that any malpractice would be dealt with firmly and according to the law.

"If you are trying to game the system, beware: You are already on our radar. The system is flagging such attempts, and investigations are ongoing," Ruto stated during a high-level launch of the National Equipment Service Project at State House, Nairobi, on August 7, 2025.

"In due course, the outcomes will be made clear to all, and the fraudsters shall face the consequences of their criminal actions," the President added.
