On Thursday, Senior Counsel Paul Muite passed the baton to Wanjigi, who expressed the party’s commitment to “ushering in a new era of economic liberation, cautioning that the nation is in a deep crisis.”
“I am handing over the button of leadership to Jimmy Wanjigi, Willis Otieno & Gen Z,” said Muite.
Wanjigi noted that Kenya is drowning in debt that robs children of their future, while corruption has crippled schools, hospitals, and counties. The Safina Party leader also highlighted cases of abductions and other forms of intimidation by the state, an attack on freedoms enshrined in the constitution.
“We were colonized by the white man over a hundred years ago. They came with the Bible and told us to close our eyes and pray. While our eyes were closed, they took everything, our land and resources. When we opened our eyes, the Mau Mau who sought liberation were killed. Today, history repeats itself,” he said.
“Now our eyes are open. And just like the colonizer, when Gen Z rose to demand freedom, he killed them,” added Wanjigi.
Under what he termed as ‘The FIST Agenda’, Wanjigi said the party’s mission was to fight for economic freedom for Kenyans, by ending unfair debt, cutting taxes, and freeing credit.
“To achieve this, Kenya needs a small but effective government focused only on what truly matters: defending our nation, ensuring safety through a people-centred police service, delivering justice with fair courts, responding swiftly to crises, strengthening trade, leading with compassion, and preserving our culture and values,” he said.
On his part, Muite urged Kenyans to rise up and challenge the status quo even before the 2027 general elections.
“Corruption cannot wait till 2027 elections, call maandamano tomorrow,” said Muite, adding that “this government is a criminal enterprise masquerading as a government.”
