The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has dropped its candidacy in three elective positions ahead of the national by-elections scheduled for November 27.

In a statement released on Wednesday, DCP said that the resolution was made after holding a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to fortify its strategies ahead of the mini polls.

It added that in the spirit of fairness and unity within the United Opposition, DCP will not contest in Muumbini Ward, Makueni County in support of the Wiper Patriotic Front led by Kalonzo Musyoka.

DCP also resolved to halt candidacy in Kabuchai/ Chwele ward, Bungoma County, in support of Eugene Wamalwa'S DAP-K party.

The third position is the MP seat for Mbeere North in support of the Democratic Party. The seat fell vacant after Geoffrey Ruku was appointed to the position of Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Public Service.

The party also intimated that it has created the National Elections Board (NEB) and the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC) to provide the expertise required to ensure fair, transparent, and effective internal nomination and electoral processes.

It also established a fully equipped Electoral Secretariat, domiciled at the Party Headquarters.

"This secretariat will coordinate strategy, logistics, messaging, branding, and resource mobilization for all our candidates," read the statement in part.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to conduct 24 by-elections and each political party intending to participate has been instructed to submit the names before Wednesday, September 17.

Further, any public officer intending to contest must resign from their office within seven days of the notice.

The Commission will publish in the Gazette the names of those contesting in a party primary and the date of the primary within seven days of receiving the candidates' names.

The campaign period will run from Wednesday, October 8, to Monday, November 24, between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm each day.
