The Ministry of Education has announced the disbursement of Ksh.23.16 billion to support 802,159 university and TVET students across the country.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, in a
statement on Friday, said the funds have been released through the Universities
Fund and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
“The Universities Fund has disbursed Ksh.4.1 billion to
public universities in scholarship support for students. The Higher Education
Loans Board has disbursed Ksh.19.06 billion comprising Ksh.7.6 billion for tuition
and Ksh.11.46 billion for student upkeep,” said CS Ogamba.
The CS urged beneficiaries to confirm the status of their allocations through the HELB portals, explaining that upkeep funds have already been sent to students’ designated payment channels as they report to their respective institutions.
To accommodate first-year learners, the ministry has directed an extension of the deadline for applications to September 14, 2025.
The new disbursement comes a week after the Ministry, through the HELB, disbursed Ksh.9.46 billion to support 309,178 university students.
CS Ogamba, in a statement on Tuesday last week, said Ksh.5.76 billion
of the total funds would be channelled for tuition fees while the remaining
Ksh.3.7 billion would go to student upkeep.
