Sammy Kyengo, 35, was reported missing on September 6 by his wife, Christine. His body was found floating in a water sump behind the stadium terraces under construction.
A colleague stumbled upon the remains at around 9:00 a.m. while preparing the area for plastering.
Investigators at the scene confirmed that Kyengo had visible injuries on the back of his head and neck, with blood oozing from his nose and mouth. His phone had reportedly been offline since the day of his disappearance.
Christine Kyengo told reporters that her husband had expressed frustrations over delayed wages before he went missing. “He told me the company had refused to pay them since July. He wanted to claim his money and quit the job,” she said.
The grim discovery has left fellow workers at the site shaken. “We are shocked and worried. If one of us can disappear and end up dead inside the stadium, in whose hands are we safe?” posed Ivan Bongo, one of the construction workers.
Kyengo’s colleagues and family members described him as a peaceful man who had no known disputes. His nephew, Paul Kioko, said the death had left him uncertain about continuing his education. “He has been supporting me with school fees and rent. I don’t know how I will manage now,” he lamented.
Scene of Crime Investigators from Nairobi Area processed the site before moving the body to the Nairobi Funeral Home. An autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
