The Pentecostal Voice of Kenya (PVK) has expressed concern over the high rate of corruption in the country, supporting President William Ruto’s call for investigations into alleged bribery in Parliament.

The group also warned about the escalating hooliganism in the country, including the chaos during the return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and attacks on journalists.

"When it comes to the president’s recent stance against corruption and pilferage of public resources,  such tough talk isn’t new. More often, it is not followed up with actions. PVK notes with a lot of concern the recent trend of hiring goons to settle scores and terrorise real or perceived opponents," said PVK Chairperson Apostle Peter Manyuru.

Religious leaders say such incidents threaten national security ahead of the 2027 General Elections, cautioning that the government’s silence sets a dangerous precedent.

"We want to see heads rolling and people arrested, those who received the Ksh.10 million he (president) was talking about. It seems he knows those who received it," said the Chairperson.

"On hooliganism, as a church, we are here to petition the government; you have a duty to protect us. The interior CS, don’t threaten, bite. We need to see the journalists who were beaten, since you know who beat them."

Scores were injured as Gachagua's supporters clashed with armed goons who attempted to disrupt the procession from JKIA.

A group of armed youth attacked the convoy shortly after Gachagua left the airport.

Armed with stones and crude weapons, the goons pelted the DCP leader’s convoy with stones, injuring several people and damaging vehicles.

The attacks unfolded in full view of police officers deployed to maintain security. Little was done to quell the violence or protect those under attack.

Reporters from Royal Media Services, Standard Group, and TV47 sustained injuries, had their equipment stolen, and saw their vehicles vandalised during the chaos.

Among those injured was Citizen TV’s Willy Ogunga, who suffered head injuries after being struck with stones.
