Tanzanian songbird Zuchu has come out to express her
frustrations with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over alleged
payment issues following her performance before the final of the 2024 African
Nations Championship (CHAN).
Zuchu headlined the lineup
of three East African artists, including Savara from Kenya and Eddy Kenzo from
Uganda, drawn from the three host nations who were selected to perform on the
final.
The trio thrilled
thousands of football fans with a cultural showcase ahead of the highly
anticipated final between Morocco and Madagascar.
Through her Instagram
handle, the musician, in a long post, has now opened up on the aftermath of the
performance, ranting about the alleged delayed payment of her dues.
“I am writing to express
my concern and frustration regarding the outstanding payment for my recent
performance in Nairobi on August 30th 2025,” reads her opening statement.
The 31-year-old went on to
list one of the alleged agencies contracted by CAF for her ordeal, which she
says has not been solved.
“As per our agreement with
your agents at LEAP Creative Agency, the full balance for my services was due
upon completion of the event, yet despite mine and my team’s continuous
patience and understanding, I have yet to receive the full payment,” she wrote.
“My management team has
been in constant communication with various members of the LEAP agency,
including its CEO, Mr Roshan Soomarshun, to no avail. Supposed POPs were
sent, which then turned out unverifiable, suspicious and clearly not sent or
paid out.”
The 2020 AFRIMMA emerging artist winner noted that the agency
did not reciprocate her level of professional commitment.
“I have upheld my end of
the agreement by delivering a performance that I dedicated myself fully to
ensure it met the highest standards. It is highly disappointing to find
that the same level of professionalism has not been extended in return when it
comes to fulfilling your financial obligations,” she said.
Additionally, the Bongo artist mentioned the sacrifices that
she made in order to perform in the finals.
“As an artist, I expect to
be treated with the respect and fairness that any professional artist deserves.
This delay is not only unfair but also completely unacceptable. As an
artist, I dropped previously booked shows to be able to take on the finale
show. I do not expect this unfair treatment,” she continued.
Should the delay continue,
Zuchu has stated to CAF that she will have to seek legal redress.
“It is integral that the
balance is settled immediately without any further delay or postponement;
otherwise, I will have no choice but to pursue further action to recover the
funds owed,” she noted.
"I trust you will
take immediate steps to resolve this matter and honour the terms of our
agreement.”
