The launch marked a significant milestone for the contemporary Luo music artist, who has been making waves with her powerful vocals and a unique sound that masterfully bridges the gap between deep cultural tradition and modern musical appeal.
The launch gave soul music lovers an intimate experience, featuring live performances by Adoyo and her acclaimed band, who brought the EP’s four original tracks to life.
In an exclusive to citizen digital, Adoyo Afrique shared the profound personal significance behind the project.
“This EP is deeply personal, it’s about the beautiful contradictions of life, love, and growth,” she said.
“The thorns represent life's challenges and the honey symbolizes the sweetness that comes from perseverance. Through the lens of Luo music, I'm sharing stories that I believe resonate universally while staying firmly rooted in my cultural identity.”
The title ‘Thorns & Honey’ perfectly summarizes the EP’s thematic core, exploring resilience, love, and pride in one’s heritage. Each track is a narrative journey, built on authentic experiences and brought to life through traditional Luo instrumentation, including the distinctive sound of the nyatiti, fused with contemporary arrangements.
The project is the result of an eight-month recording process that saw Adoyo collaborate with renowned Kenyan musicians and producers dedicated to evolving traditional African sounds for today's audience.
Born and raised in the culturally rich village of Sakwa Bondo, Adoyo’s musical journey is one of determination and academic pursuit.
Adoyo is currently balancing a masters degree in musicology with her music career, she brings a rare blend of intellectual depth and raw authenticity to her work. Her mission extends beyond music; she is a committed advocate for the empowerment of women and the girl child, envisioning a future where she can use her platform to address the barriers faced by female musicians in the industry.
‘Thorns & Honey’ arrives at a time of growing global appetite for authentic African music, positioning Adoyo Afrique at the forefront of a new generation of Kenyan artists gaining international recognition for East African sounds.
