In a move that signals a seismic shift for East African music on the global stage, Nyashinski, one of Kenya’s most enduring and influential artists, has signed a groundbreaking recording deal with Sony Music.

The partnership inaugurates a new chapter, not only for the artist, but also for the region’s burgeoning cultural export, positioning East African music as a force to be reckoned with in the international arena.

Kicking off the partnership with a commanding statement, Nyashinski is set to release his latest single, ‘Tai Chi,’ accompanied by a visually arresting cinematic music video.

The track exemplifies his lyrical mastery—an intricate tapestry of streetwise bravado and poetic introspection, set against a hypnotic beat that conveys both confidence and contemplative depth.

‘Tai Chi’ is a testament to Nyashinski’s artistry: a razor-sharp anthem about success, resilience, and the hustle that defines Nairobi life, delivered with a fluidity that resonates from local streets to global ears.

“This partnership with Sony Music is more than just a deal,” Nyashinski remarked in a statement, adding; “It’s a recognition of East Africa’s rich musical talent and a platform to showcase our stories to the world.”

His collaboration with Sony underscores a broader recognition of the region’s cultural potential, emphasizing authenticity, versatility, and artistic longevity - traits that Nyashinski has exemplified throughout his career.

Sean Watson, Managing Director for Sony Music Africa, encapsulated the significance of the deal: “Nyashinski represents everything the world needs to see from East Africa—authenticity, versatility, longevity, and artistic excellence. This partnership is about more than music; it’s about elevating the culture and giving East African voices the global platform they deserve.”

As Nyashinski embarks on this new chapter, his story reflects the broader narrative of East Africa’s rising prominence in global pop culture—a testament to the region’s vibrant creativity and untapped potential.

Nyashinski’s journey from the early 2000s as part of the legendary Kenyan rap trio Kleptomaniax to his solo ascent exemplifies artistic resilience and adaptability.

His hiatus from music, spent in the United States, only heightened his creative edge upon returning to Kenya in 2015—marked by a series of hits that cemented his status as a cultural icon.

His collaborations span the continent and beyond, with notable work alongside Sauti Sol, Juma Jux, Patoranking, and appearances on Coke Studio Africa, where he produced hits with Yemi Alade, Trey Songz, and Mafikizolo.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Nyashinski has become a revered ambassador for brands such as Johnnie Walker, Samsung, TECNO, and Safaricom, embodying a brand of artistry that seamlessly merges commercial appeal with cultural authenticity.

Christine ‘Seven’ Mosha, Head of Sony Music Eastern Africa, expressed her enthusiasm about the deal: “Nyashinski’s signing is a milestone for us and a testament to the incredible talent emerging from East Africa. He embodies the spirit of innovation and authenticity that our label strives to promote. We are excited to support his journey as he takes his rightful place on the global stage and continues to inspire a new generation of artists and fans across the continent.”

As part of this new chapter, Nyashinski is also reintroducing his catalog of beloved classics to streaming audiences worldwide.

This curated collection bridges past and present, reaffirming Nyashinski’s status as a foundational figure in Kenyan music and an enduring voice of the continent.
