Kenyan actress and social advocate Catherine Kamau, popularly
known as Kate Actress, has landed a global role after being appointed the
Goodwill Ambassador for the new Bill Gates & Friends social movement, which
is set to launch later this month in the United States.
The appointment, tied to the upcoming Bill Gates 70th Birthday
Campaign, positions the celebrated star as Africa’s voice on the world stage,
with a focus on Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria.
In her new role, Kate will help onboard African changemakers
into a digital campaign spotlighting Bill Gates’ humanitarian legacy, work with
the campaign’s anthem artist to deliver a powerful musical collaboration, and
lead storytelling efforts ahead of major global events, including the Monthly
Humanitarian Legacy Festivals beginning in February 2026 and the Future of
Humanity Initiative.
The campaign is being billed as a landmark tribute that will
not only celebrate Gates’ life and impact but also mobilize leaders, innovators
and philanthropists to sustain his vision.
The celebration itself, scheduled for October 28, 2025, goes
beyond birthday festivities. Organized by a coalition of friends, leaders and
changemakers, it will highlight Gates’ contributions to health, education,
technology and philanthropy while sparking action to expand that legacy.
The Future of Humanity Initiative, to be unveiled during the
event, already boasts over $3 billion (Ksh.387.6 billion) pledged by
philanthropists worldwide, all committed to Gates’ lifelong dream: that every
child has enough food, proper medical care, and access to education all the way
through to college.
Fans and supporters will also have an opportunity to be part
of the campaign through digital activations, including sharing birthday wishes
under hashtags like #BillGatesAt70, #CelebrateImpact, and #FutureofHumanity,
nominating African changemakers for recognition, and participating in giveaways
and tokens of appreciation.
Kate’s appointment underscores her influence both on and off
the screen. With a career spanning more than 15 years across film, television
and digital platforms, she has built a reputation as one of Kenya’s most
beloved entertainers and cultural icons.
Beyond her artistry, she is widely respected for her advocacy,
authenticity and cross-generational appeal. Her humanitarian work includes
founding the Auntie Kate Foundation, which is dedicated to empowering
vulnerable women and girls in Kenya through access, education and advocacy in
areas affecting women’s health and rights.
The Bill Gates & Friends movement, while independent of
the Gates Foundation, is designed to honor Gates’ achievements while inspiring
future generations to lead with innovation and service.
And for Kate Actress, the appointment cements her place not
only as a star on African screens but as a formidable voice in shaping global
conversations about humanity’s shared future.
