Kenya Airways (KQ) announced on Thursday it
had diverted some of its flights scheduled to land at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta
International Airport (JKIA) due to poor visibility.
Heavy fog engulfed most of the capital in
the morning, and KQ said some of the flights to East Africa’s busiest airport
were redirected to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro.
“As a result, we expect some delays today
for certain flight departures and arrivals,” the airline said in a customer update
some minutes past 10 a.m.
JKIA is the main gateway into Kenya, handling 8.8 million passengers and 380,000
tonnes of cargo in 2022-23.
It is the hub of KQ, which it serves
alongside other airlines such as Emirates, Turkish Airways, British Airways and
Ethiopian Airlines.
