Appearing before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Cheronoh Kesse, Monicah Kwamboka pleaded with the court to free her so that she can go and bring the woman who sold her the grade one pupil.
The suspect confessed to the offence, saying the minor was indeed not her biological son but she bought him from a woman who was linked to her through her aunty.
Kwamboka told the court that her trouble started when she lost her first-born child and since then she never gave birth again after remarrying.
She said it was her aunty, who arranged a meeting between her and the buyer from Langas estate in Eldoret city.
According to court documents the child was stolen on May 16, 2024 in Langas, an informal settlement area in Uasin Gishu county.
During the court proceeding at Eldoret law court, the minor’s mother Abscondita Azenga shed tears as she recounted how she had been searching for her lost son for over one year in vain.
Azenga, a mother of three children, said she received a call from Langas police station instructing her to go to the station where upon arrival she was shown a photograph of a boy and asked whether she could recognize him which she confirmed to be her lost one.
The prosecution has consequently filed prayers before court seeking orders for the DNA to be conducted on the accused person and the said biological mother of the minor to determine his maternity.
The Principal Magistrate directed that the minor be hosted at a private rescue centre located in Pioneer estate in the outskirts of Eldoret city.
She further ordered that a DNA test be conducted on the both women, at the government chemist based in Kisumu County on Friday.
The court directed that the accused person be held at Langas police station until October 29, 2025 when the case will come up for mention.
