Embakasi East MP Babu Owino now says he will still pursue his dream of becoming Nairobi governor, despite the entry of Winnie Odinga in the city senatorial race.

Addressing a section of Nairobi residents, Babu said the entry of Winnie in the race is her personal choice, and that will not deter him from going for the county top seat.

"I cannot decide for Winnie. She is the daughter of my political mentor and leader, the late Raila Odinga, and there is no way I'll oppose her ambitions," Babu said.

This after questions were raised about a governor and a senator for the Nairobi City county coming from the same ethnic community.

The question was raised by one of the residents, who sought to know how Babu intends to navigate that particular concern.

"You elected Sakaja as Governor and Sifuna as Senator yet they come from the same ethnic community, so I don't see any problem with that," Babu said amid laughter among the audience.

The MP is seeking to unseat Governor Sakaja in the coming election.

During the first anniversary of her late father, Winnie declared she will be vying for Nairobi senator now that Sifuna is eying the presidency.

Her entry into the Nairobi senator race quickly drew comparison with Lang'ata MP Felix Odiwuor (Jalang'o) who had already declared he will be vying for the same position.

Many predicted that Winnie will give Jalang'o a run for his money, but the former comedian and radio host welcomed her entry, saying they will take it to the wire.
