Residents of Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa counties continue to struggle with severe water shortages following the rupture of the Mzima water pipeline two days ago.

Repair works are currently underway inside Tsavo National Park, where the main pipeline was damaged.

However, major towns that depend on it, including Voi, Mariakani, and Mombasa, remain heavily affected.

“We are asking to have our own supply line so that we don’t keep facing water problems,” lamented one resident.

Frustrated residents added they have gone for days without water even as they continue to receive monthly bills.

“We get the bills every month. But we do not receive the services as the water is cut off,” residents said.

Local leaders and residents are now calling on the government to construct an alternative water pipeline to prevent the recurring disruptions that leave thousands without water whenever the main line breaks down.
