The University of Nairobi Grounds played host to an exhilarating Nonluecha Invitational Gridiron Flag Football Tournament, a Kenya Federation of American Football (KFAF)-sanctioned event that brought together emerging flag football talent in a competitive one-day showcase.
The tournament featured five men’s teams and two women’s teams, with champions in each category walking away with a cash prize of Ksh 25,000.
In the women’s final, Vikings defeated JKUAT Sparlets 18–6,
clinching the tournament title.
Vikings captain Sandra Awour was in scintillating form, scoring 12 points and earning the Finals MVP accolade for her influential display. Bridget Kamamia added the remaining 6 points to seal the victory.
JKUAT Sparlets’ resistance came through Irene Muli, who scored their lone touchdown for 6 points, but Vikings proved too strong on the day.
The men’s final lived up to expectations as UON Nyati edged out JKUAT Sparrows 18–12 in a tightly contested encounter.
Nyati’s Michael Macharia led from the front, scoring 12 points and being named Finals MVP, while Ian Metto contributed the remaining 6 points.
Despite the loss, JKUAT Sparrows showed great resilience, with Rigan Malo accounting for all their 12 points, keeping the contest alive until the closing moments.
The Nonluecha Invitational once again underlined the steady
growth of flag football in Kenya, offering a competitive platform for
university teams to showcase their talent under the KFAF banner.
