The Vetlab Sports Club in partnership with Royal Media Services, concluded a week-long Captain’s Prize Golf Tournament on November 22, marking one of the club’s most celebrated editions yet.

The annual event, which honoured Captain Eric Karuga for his leadership and service, attracted an impressive field of juniors and seniors for the competition.

According to Halake Dida, Vetlab's Marketing Manager, this year's tournament not only registered a strong turnout but also showcased exceptional talent across categories.

“We had a successful event with many winners. Our aim is to bring in even more juniors and female players in future editions,” he said.

He also noted that the prizes ranged from laptops to an outstanding grand prize car.

Captain Karuga echoed this satisfaction, celebrating the diversity and enthusiasm of participants.

“We had a good record number of juniors and seniors showing up, and the turnout was encouraging,” he remarked.

The tournament produced standout performances across age groups and handicap classes.

David Muchungu emerged as the overall winner (Two-Day) after posting an impressive 71 points (35 + 36).

Japheth Njenga claimed the men’s winner (two-day) title with 69 points, while James Karutu finished overall runner-up with a matching score of 69.

In the ladies' category, Nelius Kariuki topped the leaderboard with 39 points, followed by Grace Waiganjo at 34 points.

Junior players also impressed, with Marya Nyambura securing the overall junior winner trophy after scoring 65 points over two days, while Viaan Vajpayee and Wangari Kabugu clinched the boys’ and girls’ junior titles respectively.

Long drive honours went to Nikhil Savla (Men) and Imelda Mutiso (Ladies), with James Mugo and Rohini Shah winning nearest-to-the-pin awards.

This year’s Captain’s Prize reinforced Vetlab’s role in nurturing Kenya’s next generation of golfers, investing in youth engagement and the club actively expanding junior participation.

The event continues to grow in impact beyond competition, positioning itself as a pathway to national and international golf excellence.
