United Opposition turns heat on Kindiki, accuse him of sparking unrest in Embu

The United Opposition is turning the heat on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki following Saturday’s chaos that rocked his UDA party delegates’ meeting at Nembure grounds in Embu county.

Led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the opposition accused DP Kindiki of sparking the unrest through carless cash handouts.

The coalition warned the government against using opposition leaders as scapegoats and should instead carry its own cross.

Staging a rally in Hola, Tana River County, the opposition insists the incident was self-inflicted.

They claim local residents rebelled after some were locked out of the stadium where DP Kindiki's team was handing out money.

“Residents became furious because they had been locked out. We all know it was Kindiki who was distributing money and people became chaotic. What was the people’s mistake? The money Kindiki was giving out is taxpayers’ money, and Kenyans were right to demand their share,” Kalonzo noted.

The coalition has fiercely defended Manyatta MP John Mukunji against accusations of staging the unrest.

“Police have surrounded Manyatta MP John Gitonga Mukunji’s homestead, alleging he is behind the chaos. Where would he get 20,000 or more people from?” Kalonzo posed.

Former Attorney General Justin Muturi added: “What happened to Kindiki is the fate that befell him…”

The opposition accuses the President William Ruto-led administration of allowing political unrest to spiral out of control.

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa accused President Ruto of encouraging goonism, warning that he will suffer the same fate with DP Kindiki.

“Ruto, you need to know that by riding on the back of goonism, you will be consumed, just like what happened to Kindiki,” Wamalwa stated.

“Kindiki, your position was lowered after what happened yesterday. And if they have failed on security, just like they have failed on education, the SHA, and the economy, then they should accept it and step aside.”

The leaders also alleged a plot to rig the 2027 election following recent remarks by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, who claimed the President must win at all costs even if it means recruiting dead voters.

“UDA is now saying they will wake even the dead to vote. They have panicked because Ruto has no numbers. We will not allow the dead to come and vote with us,” Wamalwa claimed.

“The only presidential vote we will accept is the one which will be counted at the polling station. Once you vote you remain there to protect the vote and the IEBC should know that,” Justin Muturi added.
