The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Hassan Omar has said the party is committed to fully implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UDA and ODM, including the 10-point agenda agreed with the late Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a UDA delegates’ meeting in Vihiga, Omar
said the NADCO report and all elements of the broad-based government
arrangement will be executed as agreed.
“We in UDA will ensure that we honour Raila Odinga’s
commitment, that all the agreements — word for word — that he reached with
President William Ruto are implemented. It is the best honour we can give the
fallen hero, Raila Odinga,” he said.
He added that the coalition will push forward with the
proposed governance structure, strengthen the economy and actualise every
recommendation in the NADCO report and the 10-point agenda.
“We as UDA and ODM will work together to ensure the goal is
achieved. It was Baba’s wish that we unite,” he said.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy urged the Luhya community to back
the UDA candidate in the upcoming Malava by-election, saying the contest will
shape the political direction of the 2027 General Election.
“This vote is very crucial for the Western region and for
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. It is important for the seat to be
won by UDA. Even if they combine forces, they cannot defeat us,” Timamy said.
Host MP Omboko Milemba, who is also UDA’s deputy
secretary-general, said the delegates’ meeting sought to strengthen the party
at the grassroots following the merger between UDA and ANC.
“This meeting was meant to bring UDA leaders closer to the grassroots.
We have not had a better opportunity than this to meet with our leaders,” he
said.
