Two suspects arraigned in Kisumu after police recover 11 stolen vehicles

Two suspected members of a notorious motor vehicle theft syndicate were arraigned at the Winam Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 8, following their arrest in Kisumu.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, identified as Michael Erick Mwaga and Peter Andai, were arrested following a well-coordinated operation by detectives that unearthed a major car theft network operating within Kisumu and its outskirts.

During the sting operation, officers recovered eleven vehicles, suspected of having been stolen from vehicle owners across the region. 

The recovered vehicles were detained as exhibits pending verification and further forensic analysis.

The duo appeared before the court, where they faced charges of being in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles. 

The court granted the detectives a five-day custodial order to conclude investigations before formally charging the suspects.

Meanwhile, the detectives are pursuing leads to locate and arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.
