According to police reports, the woman was allegedly attacked by a man believed to be known to her. Witnesses say the man assaulted her with a sharp object, inflicting fatal injuries to her neck. She died at the scene.
Moments later, members of the public reportedly turned on the suspected attacker, beating him to death before police could intervene.
Machakos Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Nzioka Singi confirmed the incident, saying officers recovered a panga and two knives at the scene.
“We received a report of a murder incident in Mwanyani. Upon arrival, we found the body of a woman identified as Susan Nyaboke, who was reportedly on her way to work when she was attacked. The suspect, who had no identification documents, was also found dead a short distance away,” said Singi.
He added that preliminary investigations suggest the two may have been in a relationship and shared a child.
A local bodaboda association official, Allan Musembi, who was among the first to arrive at the scene, said he found the woman’s body lying by the roadside and the suspect’s body nearby after an apparent mob attack.
