Travelers expressed their frustration at having their schedules disrupted. The jam has started to ease, albeit slightly.
A rare sight was witnessed on the Nakuru–Eldoret Highway, from Sobea towards Mau Summit — vehicles parked on the road, drivers stranded. Though the jam had slightly eased by this evening, earlier the snarl-up stretched to the Ngata area.
“We were going for a funeral, we still have the water for the deceased here... we don’t even know when we will bury the body,” said Irene Achieng, a traveler.
“I was traveling to western to play football and return tomorrow, now even those plans have been disrupted,” said Martin Mbusi, a traveler.
Those who used alternative routes, including the Molo Town road, did not succeed as the single-lane road also experienced heavy traffic.
“We passed through small routes but still ended up on this same road... we don’t know what is happening. I was going to Kampala and was to return the next day,” said Naomi Ngigi, a traveler.
Drivers expressed frustration with the situation, with many forced to change their plans.
“My boss keeps calling asking where I am... I tell him I’m stuck in traffic and he can’t believe it,” said Humphrey Luvisia, a truck driver.
“Today I’ve lost money because I’ve been stuck in this traffic all day,” said Denis Onyango, a matatu driver.
Calls continue to be made to expand the Nairobi–Nakuru–Eldoret Highway to reduce traffic congestion.
“This problem happened because of overlapping... people are not patient and keep overlapping,” said Patroba Alukwe, a truck driver.
